Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Advances to 400m Hurdles Final at Paris Olympics

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won her semifinal heat in the 400m hurdles at the Olympic Games on Tuesday, securing her spot in Thursday’s final. The Tokyo 2020 gold medalist and fastest woman in history in the 400-meter hurdles topped the qualifiers across three semifinal heats at the Stade de France, recording a winning time of 52.13. McLaughlin-Levrone will compete in the Olympic final on Thursday, August 8, at 3:25 ET, with coverage available on NBC and Peacock.

During her time at Kentucky in the 2018 season, McLaughlin-Levrone was the SEC and NCAA champion in the 400m hurdles and currently holds the collegiate record. She is a three-time Olympian, making her debut in Rio in 2016 and reaching the semifinal in the 400m hurdles. At the Tokyo Games, she won two gold medals in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay.

Five Kentucky Track and Field athletes will compete on Wednesday, including the Paris 2024 debut of Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Masai Russell, and Devynne Charlton (Volunteer Assistant Coach/Purdue Alum) in the 100m hurdles. The three Wildcats will begin their Olympic campaigns at 4:15 a.m. ET. After a session break, Daniel Roberts and Alexis Holmes will return for their respective semifinal rounds. Roberts will aim for his first trip to an Olympic final in the 110m hurdles at 1:05 p.m. ET. Ninety minutes later, first-time Olympian Alexis Holmes will compete in the 400m semifinal at 2:45 p.m. ET, looking to secure her place in the final.
