Three Louisville Swimmers Compete at 2024 Paris Olympic Games

The University of Louisville had three swimmers in action at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games: Evgenii Somov, Andrej Barna, and Daria Golovaty, who competed Thursday morning at the Paris La Defense Arena.

Louisville showcased two sprinters in the men’s 50M freestyle event. Evgenii Somov, swimming as a neutral athlete and a member of the Cardinals’ NCAA championship 200 medley relay team, placed fourth in Heat 5 with a time of 23.43. Andrej Barna, a 17-time All-American for the Cardinals, finished fifth in Heat 7 with a time of 22.19. Australian Cameron McEvoy emerged as the top qualifier for the evening’s semifinals, clocking in at 21.32.

In the women’s 4x200M freestyle relay, incoming freshman Daria Golovaty swam the second leg for the Israeli team, which finished 11th overall with a time of 7:45.63. Australia posted the fastest time in the prelims, securing the top seed for the finals with a 7:45.63.
